Chairman's Address
I wish to extend a sincere welcome to everyone and I hope that you enjoy our 2002 production, ‘Lovers Meeting’ by Louis Dalton.
This is the first time that this play has been staged in Skibbereen Town Hall and it has all the ingredients of being an outstanding success. ‘Lovers Meeting’ is the second Louis Dalton play to be staged by Skibbereen Theatre Society in recent years, having done ‘They Got What They Wanted’ – directed by the late John O’Sullivan – back in 1989.
Once again, the group will be travelling to drama festivals, with appearances at Castleisland, Rossmore, Scariff, Holycross, New Ross and Charleville, incurring very heavy touring costs, so your support is most welcome and I hope that, if you enjoy the show, you will recommend it to all your friends. A good night out at the theatre is hard to beat!
In 2000, the group had three wins on the drama festival circuit and so qualified for the All-Ireland finals, but last year’s festival activities were curbed due to the foot-and-mouth disease scare and the All-Irelands were cancelled. Nevertheless, a few awards were picked up in the two festivals we did, so that was some compensation for all the hard work and commitment that goes into the staging of a play, on stage and off.
Our thanks to all our sponsors, advertisers, to all who lent props and to all those who helped in so many different ways. Special gratitude goes to Thornhill Electrical, Clohane Wood Products, Fields SuperValu and Bakery, the Celtic Ross Hotel, Abbeystrewry Union of Parishes and to West Cork Dry Cleaners for their co-operation in various aspects.
Finally, to you, the audience, may we wish you a pleasant evening and enjoy the show, with best wishes from our director Fachtna O’Driscoll, the cast and crew.
Frank McCarthy,
Chairman,
Skibbereen Theatre Society.
